The ragged pieces of ideas and thoughts of my attempt to live a life as a contemporary monastic in the urban city of Singapore..

Look for a gem within

I just cannot believe it. I'm reminded again why we constantly keep looking for new things when gems can be be found in what is already with us. I discovered what is perhaps the most exciting music since Blind Willie Johnson,

Washington Philips is a travelling gospel singer who left behind only 18 songs recorded between 1927 and 1929. It's like nothing I ever heard before. He played a rare instrument believed to be called a dolceola and his songs are unique, not in the mould of any other gospel singers of that era. It's been a long time since I was last so excited about gospel music, this one does it for me.

A real good tip if you want to download his music legally for free. Sign up for a 2 weeks trial at emusic (Emusic.com) and you'll get a free 50 songs download which is enough to download all his entire collection.
Check him out and check others like Blind Willie Johnson, Reverand Gary Davis and Mahalia Jackson if you want a change from the latest Hillsongs, Delirious or Steven Curtis Chapman...

And while you are at it, remember to look within before you start looking for what is the latest fanfare in the market. You maybe surprised by what you can find.

Be His always!
