The ragged pieces of ideas and thoughts of my attempt to live a life as a contemporary monastic in the urban city of Singapore..
This morning I ate what I honestly think is the fattest banana I've ever eaten for breakfast. I also think that at the same time I've read perhaps one of the heaviest wisdom ever from the bible.
"But the King (David) replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing" So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them.
- 2 Samuel 24:24David insisted on paying for a sacrifice that could have cost him nothing.
This reminds me of when we do work without motivation, without passion and without life. When we won't put in extra anymore in our service or giving to people or the Lord. When its all token work that really doesn't costs us anything. That's when it all becomes meaningless. We are doing and yet things don't get done. We are giving and yet nothing good has been given.
I think we need to chill out a bit, let go of what we are holding so tightly to because that could be the very thing we need to "insist on paying". If we open our hands and let go of what we hold tightly too, it'll first and foremost be less burdensome and secondly, there may be a better chance that something will be left on the same hands that have let something go.
It's a strange thing about our giving that works everytime. Insists of giving intentionally and with heart! I don't know, sometimes things just don't need a reason. The Lord doesn't demand us to be smart. He just ask us to listen, obey and be His. Don't live our live accidentally but do it intentionally.
Its one of the the heaviest breakfast I ever had.
